DONY MCGUIRE BIOGRAPHY

Dony McGuire spent his early years performing in churches and concert halls with such popular Gospel groups as The Downings, The Galileans, and The Rebels Quartet. His extraordinary talent as a singer, pianist, arranger, and producer enabled him to become one of Christian music’s most beloved and sought after artists.

But his success came with a price, eventually leading to divorce, drug addiction, alcohol abuse and another failing marriage. By divine intervention and with the help of trusted pastors and friends, Dony was miraculously delivered from his addictive lifestyle and his marriage to Reba Rambo restored.

One of the major highlights of Dony’s career was receiving the 1980 GRAMMY Award for Best Contemporary Gospel Album for the musical he wrote with Reba, The Lord’s Prayer, and performed at the 1981 GRAMMY Awards show with other acclaimed artists. They also received a Dove Award that year for the same project.

With devotion to his craft, Dony McGuire has provided familiar songs such as “A Perfect Heart,” “Upon This Rock,” “Wounded Soldier,” and “Because Of Whose I Am.” His songs have been performed by Christian music’s most famous artists as well as Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress and singer, Kristin Chenoweth, and his recordings and production work have garnered some of the most prestigious honors.

Dony continues to compose and write songs, including several new collaborations with Bill and Gloria Gaither and many other well known writers across all genres of music. He recently produced two projects for Rambo McGuire, joined by their children Destiny and Israel and Reba's late father Buck, commemorating the music of The Rambos, Rambo Classics and Grassroots RambosGrassroots Rambos won him the 2012 Dove Award for Bluegrass Album Of The Year.
Dony also produces projects for other artists. Two of his most recent productions are Mark Lowry’s What’s Not To Love and The Freemans Tower Of Song.

Dony devotes a portion of his schedule to teaching creative writing workshops. In these dynamic classes, young and seasoned writers receive practical instruction in the craft of writing songs, stories, sermons, and speeches.
